Local group - Bawtry, Sth Yorks

News from UKCPS member, Sue Woffinden, regarding her local group:

Known as the Three Counties Botanical Art Group,  we meet every Wednesday morning 9.30 - 12.30 at The New Hall, Bawtry, South Yorkshire.

 We are a small group who meet to do botanical art, no tutor, but we do help each other if we can. We are looking for new members to swell the numbers!

  We are having an exhibition in the Bawtry Library for the full month of November. If you would like to join us either call in on a Wednesday morning or contact Sue Woffinden on 07941 509871.

Bev Lewis - exhibition

'Big Red' by Bev Lewis

Bev Lewis, UKCPS (Silver) member, will be holding an exhibition of her animal art at Hestercombe Gardens, Nr Taunton, Somerset, from Saturday 18th June until Sunday 8th July.

She will be drawing/demonstrating across lunchtimes on Saturdays and Sundays, so if you would like to come and see her working or if you have any questions about her art, please do come and see her. As the Gallery is next to the restaurant you can grab yourselves a delicious meal while you are there.

The lovely picture on the right is of one of her works - CP on draft paper.

Sue Clinker - Exhibition

UKCPS signature Member, Sue Clinker, has a one woman exhibition on at the Whitstable Framing Gallery, 9 Oxford Street, Whitstable for one week from Monday 16th April. It's a tiny gallery/window space with room for just about a dozen pictures, -- but it is on the main Whitstable street.

Call-in if you're in the vicinity!

Pauline Longley - Exhibition

UKCPS Signature Member, Pauline Longley, has an exhibition at the Lutyens Gallery, Hestercombe House, Near Taunton.  It is on now and until 21st August.
Hestercombe is a unique collection of three gardens spanning three centuries of garden history and design. All have undergone acclaimed restoration works and today provide important examples of gardens in contrasting styles that continue to grow and develop. In particular, Hestercombe's Formal Garden is a fine example of the world renowned partnership between plants-women, Gertrude Jekyll and architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens There is a good cafe, gift shop, lovely walks, and I know Pauline's work is excellent - so it is well worth a visit. http://hestercombe.com/

Karen Middleton - Exhibition

UKCPS member, Karen Middleton, is holding her first solo exhibition next month. The exhibition is entitled ' Faeries, Faces, and Felines' and is being held at Lincoln Central Library from 18th to 21st April 2011, open from 9.30 to 4.30.

Shirley Anne Leslie - Exhibition

UKCPS Signature member, Shirley Anne Lewis, has an exhibition coming up. It is being held in partnership with artist, Diana Marsden, and it runs from Saturday 5th March to Friday 11th March, at The Old Printworks Gallery, 27 HighStreet, Saxmundham, IP27 1AF.

Open Studios: Lesley Crawford (Scotland)

For the second year running UKCPS Founder Member Lesley Crawford (Lesley Crawford) will be taking part in North East Open Studios.

Held over the north east of Scotland, 128 artists and craftspeople will open their studios to the public from 11-19th September.  The event affords people the chance to talk to the artists in a relaxed atmosphere, watch them create, and maybe buy direct from them.

Lesley's studio, in Carmyllie, Angus, will be open on the following dates and times:

• Sat 11th Sept 10-8.00
• Sun 12th 10-5.00
• Monday 13th - closed
• Tuesday -Friday 17th - 10-5.00
• Satu 18th 10-6.00
• Sun 19th 10-5.00

There will be lots of original artwork on the walls, pastels, watercolours, graphite and of course coloured pencil, some of which will be for sale.  There will also be prints and cards available.  Landscapes, wildlife and portraits, and fantasy inspired by British mythology are her subject matter.  There will be works in progress, and demonstrations upon request.

Lesley says, 'it's lovely to have the public visit the studio and talk face to face, as being an artist is a solitary life.  It's a great opportunity to talk about my work, and to share information and enthusiasm with people interested in art.  If anyone is in the area do come and have a coloured pencil chat over a cuppa.'

Lesley is a Founder Member and Signature member of the UKCPS, and is a tutor of art in Adult Education. 

She has exhibited at London Zoo, the Westminster Gallery and NEWA, and her work is in many private and public collections both here and abroad.

Ann Swan's "Vibrant Verdure"

Gold medal winning coloured pencil artist, author and UKCPS member Ann Swan is exhibiting her colourful contemporary plant portraits this month at Ilminster Arts Centre.

The exhibition is called Vibrant Verdure and is being held between 23rd August and 4th September 2010. 

The Arts Centre can be found at East Street, Ilminster, Somerset TA19 0AN.  Opening hours are

South Hampshire Group in Mottisfont Abbey Exhibition

UKCPS members Karen Coulson UKCPS, Elizabeth Diggins, Jess Knowles, James Brinsford and friends are holding an exhibition of their artwork at Mottisfont Abbey from 21st to 26th August - open daily from 11am to 5pm.

The exhibition is advertised by the National Trust as "Oakwood Artists".

Beverley Courtney wins People's Vote at Keswick

The 8th 'A World of Coloured Pencil' Mixed Media Competition 2010 closed on Sunday and the number of votes cast by visitors for each artist were counted.

The winner of the People's Vote is Jake by Beverley Courtney.

Beverley wins a prize donated by Derwent which comprises the following items:

• a wooden presentation case of 48 Inktense pencils, 
• hardback Derwent sketckbook, 
• History of Pencil Making Booklet and 
• a Museum notebook and pen.

The Derwent Award for ‘Best in Show’

Abergynolwyn has the most lovely waterfalls, reached by the train from Tywyn in Wales. The small steam train calls at several beautiful stops en route, Abergynolwyn being the last in the line. There was almost 2 hours to walk and take photos before the return journey. This picture is from my favourite photo. I wanted to try out my Coloursoft pencils and also to experiment on black Stonehenge paper. The waterfall seemed to be a picture that might work well on black Stonehenge—and I was happy with my choice of subject. I used Derwent Watercolour white for the highlights.

The Best in Show prize donated by Derwent comprises:  Wooden presentation box of 72 Derwent Inktense pencils, Wooden presentation box of 48 of the new Derwent Pastel pencils, Box of 6 Coloursoft Portrait pencils, Box of 6 Derwent Sketching pencils, A4 hardback sketchbook, Museum Notebook and pen, Derwent Helical Battery Pencil Sharpener, and a booklet on the History of Pencil Making in Keswick.

The online exhibition can now be seen on the main UKCPS website.

Unlike the Annual Open International Exhibition, the "World of Coloured Pencils" is a members only exhibition where the work exhibited is selected by ballot making this exhibition much more representational of the range of abilities within the Society, from beginners to professionals.  Artists can also use other media for their enytries so long as coloured pencils are the main medium.

Diversity - an exhibition by three UKCPS members

An exhibition of coloured pencil art by three friends and UKCPS members, Bev Lewis, Diana Connor and Pauline Longley, opens next Friday at the Glastonbury Galleries 10A High Street, Glastonbury
Somerset BA6 9DU.

Each artist has very different interests hence the title of the exhibition.  Both original works (in coloured pencils and other media) and greeting cards will be available to purchase at the gallery.

Bev Lewis is an animal artist and a signature member of UKCPS.  She has won numerous awards for her finely detailed and realistic depiction of wildlife and domestic animals.

Recently she has also become a member of The Wildlife Artists Society International.

Diana Connor has exhibited her work with UKCPS, Bath Society of Botanical Artists, the Society of Floral Painters and at RHS Rosemoor.  She has also held private exhibitions at Westonbirt Arboretum and London.

Diana uses coloured pencil for botanical and animal subjects and acrylics for her abstract works.

Pauline Longley creates realistic coloured pencil portrayals of both animals and people. She has exhibited her work in a number of juried exhibitions including those of the Royal West of England Academy, the Royal Birmingham Society of Art and the UK Coloured Pencil Society.
