BBC 1 - Seeking amatuer artists!

WANTED AMATEUR ARTISTS! BBC One is on the hunt for the best of Britain’s amateur artists for a new competitive arts series. We're looking for amateur painters from all over the UK who have a passion for painting and drawing. If you are over 16 and like a creative challenge we want to hear from you. Applicants must not be professional artists and will be expected to work in a variety of different figurative forms and media - from landscape, portraiture and still life, to watercolour, oil and charcoal. Ann Kulberg - "CP Msterworks, Vol. 2"

The American CP artist (and author of excellent books on CP techniques!) Ann Kulberg is a long time member of UKCPS.

We have received the following announcement from Ann which she has asked to be passed on to all UKCPS members:-

We are currently accepting submissions for "CP Treasures - Colored Pencil Masterworks from Around the Globe - Volume II"

Submissions are open to all colored pencil artists from around the world. No membership or subscription is required to submit work.

 

We are especially interested in colored pencil work from outside the US and Canada. We would appreciate it immensely if you could please help make this a truly international book by forwarding the news to your membership.

Pauline Longley - CP demo

Pauline Longley will be demonstrating CP at the
 The Blue Cedar Art Cafe Gallery, High St, Glastonbury, BA6 9DX, on Sunday 23rd October from 12-4pm.

  Pauline says  that the cafe has lovely food, but access is by a flight of stairs, so persons with a mobility disability may need to be aware.

Graham Brace - in the news

Graham Brace, UKCPS member and a well-known CP artist, is chuffed to bits at the moment, and all because he is appearing as one of ten coloured pencil artists featured in the latest edition of one of France's premier art magazines, 'Practiques des Arts'.

The March edition of the magazine is promoting coloured pencil as an art medium, and features 10 international CP artists, of which Graham is the only UK representative, within its monthly 'Portfolio' section.

One of the other UKCPS artists featured is Ann Kulberg, the well-known American artist, and authoress of some excellant books on colour pencil art.

Bernard Poulin 2010

Bernard Poulin has recently contributed towards the advancement of coloured pencil.  His coloured pencil portrait of a former Prime Minister of Canada now hangs in the Print Room at Windsor Castle.

He writes

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, has appointed the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, (Prime Minister of Canada - 1993-2003) to the most prestigious Order of Merit. As is the tradition, a portrait drawing of this newest Member to the Order will hang in the Print Room at Windsor Castle. Her Majesty having asked me to create this portrait, has recently acknowledged and accepted the portrait.

UKCPS members's exhibition - Ilminster 6-18th September

UKCPS members Diana Connor, Bev Lewis UKCPS and Pauline Longley will be exhibiting their coloured pencil artwork in an exhibition called Diversity at the Ilminster Arts Centre in Somerset between 6-18th September.

The Arts Centre can be found at East Street, Ilminster, Somerset TA19 0AN.  Opening hours are

• Monday to Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm
• Saturday 10.00am to 2:30pm

In addition, the three artists are holding a "Coloured Pencils Experience" Day at the Arts Centre on Wednesday 8th September.

Those attending the day - which is free - will be able to:

• watch the artists demonstrating the use of coloured pencils
• ask questions about the artwork, working with coloured pencils and specific techniques
• try out a range of pencils and papers

Note:

• Diana Connor has exhibited her work with UKCPS, Bath Society of Botanical Artists, the Society of Floral Painters and at RHS Rosemoor.  She has also held private exhibitions at Westonbirt Arboretum and London.  Diana uses coloured pencil for botanical and animal subjects and acrylics for her abstract works.
• Bev Lewis is an animal artist and a signature member of UKCPS.  She has won numerous awards for her finely detailed and realistic depiction of wildlife and domestic animals.  Recently she has also become a member of The Wildlife Artists Society International.
• Pauline Longley creates realistic coloured pencil portrayals of both animals and people. She has exhibited her work in a number of juried exhibitions including those of the Royal West of England Academy, the Royal Birmingham Society of Art and the UK Coloured Pencil Society.  Pauline's blog is Pauline Longley's Art Blog.

Susan Goodall promotes coloured pencil art in Whitby

The UKCPS Blog is always pleased to highlight the initiatives of individual members in promoting the coloured pencil cause!

Susan Goodall, a UKCPS member living in Whitby in North Yorkshire, displayed her work and spent 10 days demonstrating how to draw using coloured pencils at her local tourist centre in December. Susan's particular interest is in finding new ways to work a medium and consequently she chose to demonstrate colour pencil work on velour paper.

As Susan explains, as well as providing her with some personal benefits, her marketing project has helped to generate interest in membership of the UKCPS.

I have publicised the event in my local newspaper, and have had lots of interest, and given out lots of UKCPS forms. So far I have two people interested in commissioning me for work, a request from the a writer on the local newspaper to do a days art tuition for her and she will do a full page spread with pictures on her days experience, an invite to demonstrate my cp work at the local art society meeting, and an invite to have a stand at a local Rotary Club Fair day.

What a result!
