Workshop tutor required!

Good afternoon, all,
Wearing my localgroups@ukcps.co.uk hat, I have been contacted by member, Patsy Lowe, as follows:
I write on behalf of a small botanical art group recently formed in Hereford.
We have identified that those among us really interested in coloured pencil painting would really like, and need, some help with technique, and our tutor does not think she is expert enough to take this on as her skills are in traditional water colour. Could you perhaps put us in touch with an individual or group near us to whom we could turn for help. We would love a whole day-workshop in Hereford and would be very happy to pay a resonable fee.
I look forward to hearing from you.
KInd regards
Patsy Lowe
If you think you can assist, please contact me in the first instance, and I will put you in contact with Patsy!

Anyone going to London? (off topic)

When wearing my other hat I am a committee member of the Irby Artists Association, here on the Wirral.

The following has come to me from one of our members, Sarah Wood, a fine watercolourist whose work has won a number of number of national awards.  As you may gather from the note, I will be seeing Sarah at our AGM next Tuesday, so if you are interested in obtaining the tickets, please contact me via: alanmacann@btinternet.com and I will put you in contact:-

Dear Alan,

I have five free tickets to admit two people to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Exhibition 2013, at the Mall Galleries in London ( I have some work in the exhibition). The tickets cover the private view on the 4th April and the exhibition from 5th to 18th April. It should be interesting, there is a special feature on trees and landscapes. Normal entrance is £3 each, if anyone happens to be in London at this time it might make a nice addition to their sight seeing itinerary. Please could you forward this to members and I will bring the tickets to the AGM on Tuesday.

Many thanks

Sarah

It seems that a number of online art shops are selling sets of 120 Faber Castell 'Polychromos' pencils at half price, i.e 120 for just under £100.   A bargain by any reckoning!

Two links have been received from UKCPS members:  (but there may be others out there!)

UKCPS at Patchings

Readers will probably be aware that the deadline for entries to the 2013 Patchings Open Art Competition (run in conjuction with 'The Artist', and 'Leisure Painter' magazines) is coming up on 28 March [details and entry forms via www.painters-online.co.uk], and that the winning entries will be on display at the annual Patchings Art & Craft Festival, 6 th - 9th June, and ongoing thereafter until 21 July 2013.

We are pleased to announce that UKCPS have been asked to run a display stand at the three days of the Festival, involving demonstrations, and have-a-go sessions.  We are looking for volunteers to help run the stand, so if you are able to attend the Festival and can give some time either to demonstrate or assist with the have-a-go, then please contact Pauline Longley via exhibitions@ukcps.co.uk.

Regardless of whether you can assist on the stand, the Festival itself, featuring demonstrations and workshops by top artists, and trade stands by most of the major art suppliers, is always worth the visit.

But that is not all .................

you should now be working on that masterpiece to be entered in the UKCPS Open International Exhibition, which this year will also be held at the Patchings Art Centre from 1st September to 6th October 2013.  [the call for entries will be out shortly!]

As usual, the exhibition will feature demonstrations, etc. and Pauline is looking for volunteers for:

Sunday 1 September

Saturday and Sunday 21 and 22 September

Saturday and Sunday 28 and 29 September

For those who don't know - Patchings Art Centre is at Calverton, Nottinghamshire.  Their website is: www.patchingsartcentre.co.uk

New colours for Coloursoft, and more products

Derent are introducing an additional set of colours for their Coloursoft pencils. [my personal favourites!].

Available from March onwards, the set comprises 12 new  (and very vibrant) colours developed in co-operation with fashion designer, Nikki Partington.

They will be issued in a 12 pencil tin with a RRP of £19.50

Some of the colours are:

Ivory, Lemon Sorbet, Magenta, Powder Blue, Chartreuse, Seaweed, Henna, and Cinnemon.

Yours truly will be going to the Pencil Museum on 14th March, so I'm hoping to treat myself!

More details from the Derwent website: www.pencils.co.uk

In addition .... (for those who like mixed media with their CP), Derwent have also extended their range of Inktense Blocks to 72 colours, and have introduced some lovely charcoal and graphite blocks (see the review in the April edition of 'Leisure Painter').
